About This Tour
Ephesus is one of the most important cities of early Christianity — home of St. Paul for over two years, addressee of one of his epistles, one of the Seven Churches of Revelation, and the place where St. John is believed to have brought the Virgin Mary after the crucifixion. This tour explores that story on the ground, with a guide experienced in biblical history.
We begin at the serene House of the Virgin Mary on Bülbül Mountain, recognized by papal visits in 1967, 1979 and 2006. In ancient Ephesus, you will stand in the very Grand Theatre described in Acts 19, where the silversmiths' riot against Paul took place, and walk streets the apostle knew. We finish at the Basilica of St. John in Selçuk, built by Emperor Justinian in the 6th century over the tomb of the Evangelist, with sweeping views across the Ephesus plain.
